This seaside town is the UK’s new vacation hotspot
Are you looking for a destination to stay? Airbnb has revealed the 10 seaside towns with the highest increase in searches in the UK this summer, and at the top of the list is Sandgate in Kent
It might not be as well known as Margate Folkestone or Broadstairs, but there are plenty of reasons to book a sunny getaway to Sandgate…
The beautiful beach
Sandgate’s wide pebbly beach, lined with colorful beach huts, is perfect for strolling, sunbathing (sun loungers are recommended), picnicking or cooling off on a hot day. You can also run or cycle along the path parallel to the beach.
The historic castle
Originally an artillery fort built by Henry VIII to protect against invasions from France and the Holy Roman Empire Martello Tower, which overlooks the beach.
The seaside cuisine
No trip to the seaside is complete without a fish and chip dinner. For a sit-down dinner with all the trimmings, head to the Ship Inn on Sandgate High Street, or for a treat to go, stop by the Little Fish Shop.
Craving something sweet? You’ll find delicious cakes and freshly brewed java at Orchard Lane Coffee House, and traditional smoothie ice cream right on the beach at The Boat House.
The charming shops
Dotted along Sandgate High Street, you’ll find a host of charming independent shops and art galleries, perfect for shopping or strolling on a rainy day.
For antique and salvaged furniture and housewares, head to Workshop Number 29 (open Thursday through Sunday), Christopher Buck or Bartholomew Antiques.
Support local artists by making a purchase at the Glimpse @ 53 gallery or try your hand at pottery making or painting in Mudpie.
