UPDATE 7/12/2021 6:30 p.m. A deadly shootout early Monday morning left a community in Castroville and investigators stunned.

“It’s been a very long time. We haven’t had a triple homicide for several years, probably at least 15 years ago,” said Monterey County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Chief John Thornburg.

Investigators say no arrests have been made so far. The shooting took place at a party, and they don’t yet know exactly what happened or the nature of the party. Investigators are uncertain whether the shooting was gang related.

The three people who died appear to be in their twenties and investigators are working on the identity cards of two of them. A fourth person was shot and hospitalized.

“Looks like they were here for the party,” Deputy Chief Thornburg said. “Find out who organized the party, why they were there, who was invited? that we are still trying to figure out? “

According to Deputy Chief Thornburg, several shots were fired at this house. But several neighbors said they heard no gunshots and authorities are still looking for witnesses.

“If someone was there and we haven’t spoken to him, he has to call us so we can figure out what has happened,” Chief Deputy Thornburg said. “At the very least, if we can find out who was not the shooter who had nothing to do with this, that may help us in our investigation.”

Due to the gravity of the situation and the amount of evidence that authorities must record, they will have to remain at the scene most of the day.
