Tiqets to expand cultural ticketing platform with $60 million Series C led by Airbnb

Based in Amsterdam Tagsthe ticket booking platform for museums and other cultural attractions, announced a $60 million Series C funding round, led by Airbnb with backing from previous investors HPE Growth Capital and Investment.

The Dutch company’s mission is to make culture more accessible, so its platform allows users to buy instant, last minute and mobile tickets. Since its inception in 2014, the service has connected millions of people to cultural venues in more than 60 countries.

“We founded Tiqets to bring more people more frequently to the biggest sites in the world. We are thrilled to have the support of Airbnb and look forward to bringing great experiences to even more travelers,” said Luuc Elzinga, co-founder and CEO.

The heavy C-Series will be used to develop better tools for its site partners, create richer experiences for customers and accelerate the service’s global growth. The company currently employs over 200 people, from Seattle to Rome to Tokyo.

Commenting on the investment, Airbnb’s Director of Art and Culture, Philippe Magid, said, “Travelers are looking for a diverse range of experiences when visiting a new city. The Tiqets team has effectively used new technologies to connect travelers to communities and we are delighted to support their work.”
