Walton County is a top destination for Airbnb

WALTON COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) — Airbnb reservations are out of the ordinary in Walton County these days.

Florida is home to six of Airbnb’s ten most popular summer domestic destinations.

Walton County Ranked Number a in Airbnb’s first quarter from January to March.

“I think the main trend we’re seeing is that a lot of us are traveling really close to home,” Airbnb spokeswoman Liz Fusco said. “More than half of the nights booked in the first months of 2022 for this summer are for domestic travel and on top of that, half of the nights booked on Airbnb this summer are just three miles from the coast.”

Fusco said the area is also a family destination that offers plenty of activities.

“They are looking for destinations where they can enjoy living, which have lots of different things to do, maybe a little off the beaten path. It offers something really interesting and a nice change of scenery, and for that the destination is a great place to be.

Visit South Walton officials said the area has four state parks and a state forest, so visitors have more than just beautiful beaches.

Another dynamic also comes into play as to why Airbnb is so popular in Walton County.

“The largest percentage of accommodations we have in Walton County tend to be beach homes, so you’ll see a lot of multifamily homes and properties like that,” said Matt Algarin, director of communications for Visit South Walton.

Hotels and condos make up a smaller percentage of vacation rentals available in Walton County.

So if you want to rent your property with Airbnb, now is the time.

Demand isn’t slowing down any time soon.
