Watch Scream’s Exciting First Trailer

“Hello, Sidney.” A decade since Scream 4, Ghostface has resurfaced in the upcoming fifth film, simply titled Scream, who serves as a relaunch of the iconic horror franchise. Filled with familiar jokes and scares, the recently released trailer reunites viewers with familiar faces like Courteney Cox, David Arquette, and, of course, Neve Campbell and also features a host of newcomers including Melissa Barrera, Jack Quaid and Jenna Ortega.

Based on that first look, the film will follow a new group of high school kids targeted by Woodsboro’s eternal villain, Sidney Prescott (Campbell) once again having to fend off a new Ghostface, who is described as feeling different from the previous killers. In one of the many quotable moments, Dewey Riley d’Arquette asks Sidney, “Do you have a gun? She replies, “I am Sidney Prescott; of course I have a gun.

Directed by director duo Tyler Gillett and Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, Scream isn’t exempt from a certain level of pressure and expectations: it’s the first since the death of horror legend Wes Craven, who directed the first four films. “It’s a tightrope to walk: be respectful and find ways to tie a new story to an old lineage,” Gillett said on a virtual press day last year. He added: “This is something that has been on the mind from day one.”

All will be revealed, however, on January 14, when Scream released exclusively in theaters. In the meantime, watch the trailer and browse through the upcoming production footage.
