Where are the Airbnb hotspots in Portugal?

The impact on tourism, resulting from the easing of restrictions due to the pandemic, is already starting to be felt with holiday bookings being made earlier and preferably in coastal areas, according to Airbnb.

The main destinations in Portugal for Airbnb guests are led by Comporta Beach, in Alcácer do Sal, Setúbal district, followed by more coastal locations such as Odeceixe (Faro) and Sines (Setúbal). Funchal (Madeira) ranks fourth, followed by Olhos de Água (Faro), Carvoeiro (Faro), Alqueva (Évora), Odemira (Beja), Ponta Delgada (Azores) and Porches (Faro).

The regions of Santarém, Lisbon, Coimbra and Viana do Castelo are also included in the ranking of the top 20 chosen for the summer.

Previous reservations

Interestingly, the Portuguese are booking their getaways earlier than usual, according to accommodation platform Airbnb. “Traditionally, the Portuguese have been among the last in Europe to book their holidays, but following the pandemic, they are anticipating as much as their European neighbors,” says Mónica Casañas, general manager of Airbnb Marketing Services SL.

But there are requirements to consider when looking for a home on the platform, with the swimming pool being “the most appreciated feature” that many guests cannot live without. Other requested services include wireless Internet access, a kitchen, free parking and air conditioning.
