Where to Pick Minnesota Honey Berries

There are some really weird berries I’ve come across on Facebook recently. I had no idea what they were! They kind of looked like grapes and also like long blueberries. Turns out these things are called honey berries and the only commercial scale honey farm nationwide is right here in Minnesota.

These berries are grown near Duluth, in Wrenshall, MN. The place is called Farm Lola and in addition to being the only commercial-scale honey berry farm in the country, they also offer a pick-your-own option. So you can stop by their farm and pick your own honey berries. Based on Lola Farm website, it seems that the honey berry season is coming to an end. Berry picking dates are Tuesday, July 5 through Thursday, July 7, 4-8 p.m. and Friday, July 8, 8-11 a.m. and 4-8 p.m. There’s always next year if you can’t catch up this week.

What is a Honeyberry?

Besides looking weird, what is a honey berry? Farm Lola explains that it is the berry of a fruiting honeysuckle bush. They come from Siberia and Japan and apparently taste like a blueberry combined with a SweeTart. Of course, Farm Lola says they’re good to eat on their own or over ice cream, in smoothies, and more. But you can also use them to make wines, beers, jams and spirits! I would love to try a honey wine.

Fun fact about Farm Lola, they’re owned by the same people who run the AirbnBAWK I wrote about recently! The place where you can ‘sleep’ with the chickens. Keep scrolling through the photos of the place.

Spend the Night with Chickens at Unique Minnesota Airbnb

I always love looking at unique places to stay and usually find them on Airbnb. This place in northern Minnesota called AirB-n-BAWK gives you the chance to spend the night right next to the chickens on the farm and you can help out with the farm chores. There are two different houses you can stay in called The Nest and The Perch.
