Wife ignores 27-year age gap – but strangers think husband is their child’s grandfather

A woman says the 27-year age gap with her husband makes him a ‘better dad’ – despite strangers mistaking him for their baby’s grandfather. Gretchen Dillon, 36, had preferred dating women before meeting Michael Dillon, 63, in her local supermarket in October 2014.

Upon striking up a friendship, the couple quickly realized their romantic feelings for each other and began dating in May 2015. Despite the nearly three-decade age difference, Gretchen couldn’t deny what she felt for Michael and the couple tied the knot in February 2018 and have now welcomed a son together – six-month-old Shannon.

Market research analyst Gretchen said: “People often confuse my husband with my dad – but we laugh about it. Their perceptions change quickly when they get to know Michael and me – they can see we make sense. .

“My friend tried to stop me from marrying her because she kept saying I was going to be a widow because she is almost 30 years older than me, but I loved her and I didn’t care.”

After meeting at a gas station outside a supermarket, the pair soon met in different areas of the store and hit it off. Michael – who is two years older than his wife’s mother – offered Gretchen a free room and job to help run her Airbnb in January 2015 and in no time their friendship turned into romance .

Michael’s friends thought it was strange when he told them he was dating a woman who was 27 years younger than him, but as soon as they met Gretchen they could see the couple was fine . After dating for three and a half years, the couple tied the knot in February 2018 and decided to have a baby together.

The couple, who live in New York, USA, welcomed their first child together in October 2021 and are loving parenting baby Shannon. Michael was looking forward to being a father again – he already has a child and another stepson from a previous relationship – and I think his age makes him a better father,” Gretchen said.

Michael said: “People think I’m Shannon’s grandfather all the time, but I just laugh about it. The hardest physical thing is getting up in the middle of the night but it’s getting less and less. less and Shannon is a joy.
