Would you rent your pool to strangers? This app thinks so

MIAMI – Northerners reading this will probably roll their eyes, but true Southern Floridians know that once the kids grow into their teens the backyard pool is used less and less.

If you’re one of those Floridians sitting in your kitchen watching your pool idle completely during the summer, a new app invites pool owners to make extra money at Airbnb by listing their underused swimming pools this summer.

Swimmy, a new pool sharing platform and app (available for download from Android and Apple stores), connects swimmers and sunbathers with pool rentals in their area.

While guests are enjoying a day by the pool with family and friends, pool owners can earn some extra cash.

“While your kids are at camp or you’re sitting by the beach, your pool could earn you money,” said Swimmy spokesperson Isobella Harkrider.

Although the hosts in the pool set the amount they charge for a session, the average host earns around $ 25 to $ 50 per session.

According to the company, pool sharing is also a profitable decision for empty nesters whose certified pools may be less active this summer.

“Pool sharing is for local customers who are looking for a ‘mini vacation’ or alternative for birthday party, special event, girls’ party, game night, graduation parties, etc. It’s like having a swimming pool in your pocket, ”adds Harkrider.
