You can now rent Airbnb-style backyard pools around Vancouver
If you’ve invested in a swimming pool or are lucky enough to have a home that includes one, or you’re just looking for a place to swim, a new service called Swimply might be of interest to you.
It’s like Airbnb, but instead of hosting, it’s an online marketplace for your pool. You can list your pool at an hourly rate, as well as the number of guests you can accommodate.
Some of the listings offer amenities such as picnic tables, lounge chairs, and restrooms.
Pool owners aren’t required to provide guests with bathroom access, but about 85% of current Swimply hosts do, according to the company. Guests who do not have a toilet available can only rent their pool for one hour at a time to a maximum of five people.
Owners can also set limits on the number of people allowed in the pool.
“Founder and CEO Bunim Laskin came up with the idea in New York City one summer after noticing a neighbor’s pool that was rarely used,” a company spokesperson told Daily Hive via email. “He rented their pool in exchange for help with pool maintenance.”
Owners are required to have their pools inspected to ensure the safety of guests.
There are several pools currently available for a dip around Vancouver.
The above pool, located at British Properties in West Vancouver, costs $ 99 / hr. It also includes towels which are considered a “premium convenience” for an additional $ 6 / hr.
It looks like you can rent your luxury hot tub as well, if you have one.
This top of the line “Beachcombers Spa 750 Series” includes a built-in bluetooth speaker, in what the seller calls a “Spa Croft,” for the low cost of $ 16 / hr on weekdays and $ 20 / hr on weekdays. -end.
According to this seller, this pool in Langley has a “state of the art waterslide,” for $ 60 / hr weekdays, $ 75 / hr weekends.
You can also indicate whether or not you allow children in your pool. If you cannot provide access to a washroom, you can only book guests for a maximum of one hour.
The service is currently available in Canada, the United States and Australia.
Other Canadian cities that offer Swimply include Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, and Winnipeg.
Plus, it looks like the business continues to grow, with plans for “Joyspace” coming to their website, allowing hosts to rent things like basketball courts, private gyms, and home studios.
