Fans of HBO’s hit series game of thrones will want to take a special trip to Lexington to stay in an Airbnb designed to take you straight into the fantasy series.
With every detail planned and thought out to give guests an in-depth experience of Westeros, hosts Wayne Ebersohl and Rachel Johnson say their themed Airbnb rentals are huge draws for weekend crowds looking for something different.
Airbnb game of thrones is located in an 1800s building in historic Lexington, steps from downtown restaurants and nightlife. Ebersohl says he and Johnson started their business after returning from a bad Airbnb experience in Nashville.
“During the three hours back home, I was complaining and saying, ‘I could do better than that,'” he said. CityBeat. He and Johnson, his partner, bought the building, which was once apartments, and began dividing it into one-bedroom guesthouses. They now have nine Airbnbs in total, including six in the downtown Lexington building.
Ebersohl says when it comes to themed rooms, he and Johnson wanted to give travelers a unique experience and do something that stood out.
“We just started thinking and thinking about what was popular and what we liked and came across game of thrones and I thought, “Well, that would be exciting!” Let’s do it,” Ebersohl said. “[Johnson] is the main designer of all. And she gets her hands dirty taking on some of the physical and creative construction.”
To get the look of game of thrones right, Ebersohl and Johnson contracted a carpentry company in Georgetown, Kentucky, to make the California king-size bed, coffee bar and fireplace. For some of the medieval decor, they bought from a Ukrainian blacksmith on Etsy and brought a chandelier from England.
“Once we found something that matched our vision, there was no replacing it,” Ebersohl said.
In addition to game of thrones room, Ebersohl and Johnson also offer an aviation-themed room. A replica of the Red Room of the Fifty shades of Grey The franchise is also in the works. This will also be housed in the same building as the game of thrones bedroom. You can find all their ads here.
