• How did your real estate investing journey begin?

My journey into real estate investing started about five years ago after I got my real estate license. I started reading books, listening to the BiggerPockets podcast, and joining real estate investing groups.

I quickly became interested in the real estate markets of the Midwest due to the drop in purchase prices and property taxes. I also realized that there was an opportunity in these markets for new investors who didn’t have that much capital to start investing.

Shortly after, I bid on my first property at auction and took the next step by fixing up the house and renting it out. Although I made many mistakes along the way, each house I bought taught me something new and useful for the next ones.

• What’s your favorite flip house/renovation you’ve done so far?

Every turnaround and rehab project I do holds a special place in my heart. The houses I buy tend to be older and therefore have a lot of character. I try to keep their unique character as much as possible.

My favorite I’ve done so far was in Indianapolis and built in 1910. It had lots of original features, such as the custom woodwork and the clawfoot tub. I kept a lot of the original functionality but updated it to meet today’s standards and loved the result!

• What prompted you to buy your first property?

I was inspired to buy my first property because of passive income options and real estate security. One thing I love about real estate investing is that it’s a tangible investment that will always have value. It can also be owned or passed down from generation to generation. I was really encouraged and motivated by the possibilities.

• What impact has becoming a real estate investor had on your career?

I think investing in real estate has helped me in my career. I’ve been a “homebuyer” and “seller” multiple times, so I understand what my clients are going through and I think this has prepared me better to help my clients. From the challenges I have faced with my own properties, I also feel that it has enabled me to provide them with helpful information and information.

• What advice would you give to early career professionals looking to buy their first property?

I strongly encourage everyone, especially early career professionals, to consider buying real estate. I think it’s important to do your research, educate yourself, ask questions, and find out as much as you can about the process.

There are many ways to start investing in real estate, such as the BRRRR method, House Hacking, Airbnb Arbitrage, REIT – so I encourage you to find out what works for you and get started!
