2 people including Memphis police officer killed in overnight crash, officials say – FOX13 News Memphis

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – A Memphis police officer and another person died after an overnight crash, Memphis police confirmed.

According to Memphis Fire officials, the accident happened at Shelby Drive and Pleasant Hill in Capleville.

A call about the incident came in just after 2:30 a.m.

The deceased officer was identified as Corille Jones, 32, by the Memphis Police Association.

Officials said he leaves behind two daughters.

He served for 1 year and 11 months.

The duty officer was traveling east on E. Shelby Drive when another vehicle traveling north on Pleasant Hill struck the officer’s car, police said.

The officer was rushed to Regional One, where he was pronounced dead.

The driver of the other vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene, according to MFD and MPD.

Due to the accident involving a duty officer where fatalities occurred, the Tennessee Highway Patrol has been contacted and will be conducting this investigation, MPD said.

The names of those involved will not be released at this stage, pending verification of identity and notification of next of kin.

This investigation is ongoing. The Tennessee Highway Patrol will release any additional information related to this investigation, officials said.

The impact of the crash caused the officer’s car to crash into a gas pump at a nearby Exxon gas station, and a car’s engine landed in the middle of Shelby Drive.

Due to the crash investigation, all westbound lanes on Shelby Drive between Lamar and Malone are closed, according to MPD.

The lanes will remain closed for an indefinite period.

Motorists should take alternate routes.
