AirBnb owners are asking thousands of pounds a night to stay at their home near Glastonbury ahead of next week’s festival.

Residents of Pilton, Somerset, take advantage of revelers who want to avoid camping on site during the world famous music event.

A four-bedroom ‘festival party house’ in the village is on offer at £16,048 for the five nights of music.

According to the advert, this is a “very special house, right in the center of Pilton town” – and just a ten minute walk from the Pyramid Stage.

The house, which sleeps eight, costs £3,209 per night, or more than £400 per person.

With “clean toilets, hot tubs, great beds, comfortable furniture, a functional kitchen and a private garden” this is definitely an upgrade on the campsite – if you can afford it.

Another house, advertised as a “magnificent two-bedroom former dairy”, is just a five-minute walk from the festival’s main entrance.

But this property will set you back £6,049, or more than £300 for each of four guests per night.

“This stylishly decorated Somerset cottage is a peaceful Festival retreat in a quiet country lane, less than 5 minutes walk from the main gate,” says the owner.

“Available for the 5 Days of Glastonbury in June 2022”, they describe it as a “spacious, comfortable and peaceful home in which to refresh and rejuvenate, ideal for couples and families”.

Another home available near the festival site between June 22 and June 26 is a ‘cosy cottage’, advertised for £5,090 for all five nights.

Sleeping six – and working out at around £170 a night each – the advert reads: ‘Ideally located within walking distance (8 minutes) of Glastonbury Festival.

Festival-goers can expect “warmer temps” but may need to be careful with stormy conditions to the event, according to a long-term forecast.

But the transport chaos could impact those trying to get to the site, with train and tube strikes expected next week.

For those still looking for accommodation after seeing headliners Billie Eilish, Kendrick Lamar and Sir Paul McCartney, there are also options further afield.

In Batcombe, Shepton Mallet, a house has been listed for £15,091 for the five nights of the festival.

The modern four-bedroom house, which costs £377 per night, is more than 20 minutes’ drive from the festival site.

The garden has a ‘little forest feel’ with a tree house, zipline, swing and climbing frame for toddlers, while the house itself is described as a ‘beautiful modern country villa and closed”.

Nearby, another listing offers a seat for £2,156 for all five nights of the festival.

The modern four-bedroom home, which costs £431 a night, features ‘a large rear garden, private gated driveway and two master bedrooms with luxurious new mattresses’.

Announcing Shepton Mallet’s listing on Facebook, the landlord said: ‘People renting our house in Glastonbury have had to step down to make it available to rent again.

“In terms of price, let’s get a few things clear, the majority of property rented in Pilton and surrounding areas during the festival is reserved for the team, press crews etc.

‘Therefore the prices are high so yeah if it’s you and a few friends staying it will seem like a lot of money when the big companies are more than happy to pay those amounts that’s why you see properties in Pilton for over £5,000.

“I appreciate the comments that it’s expensive, but those are the prices properties get, that’s why it’s set at the amount it is.”

An Airbnb spokesperson said: ‘The average price per night paid for a stay on Airbnb during the festival is just £205, providing affordable accommodation and helping local families boost their incomes and benefit from the festival visitors.

“We encourage anyone in the local community who is considering hosting to sign up to earn extra money and help provide additional accommodation around the event.”
