Muse Yoga & Fitness is celebrating its grand opening with free classes all weekend.
After a difficult year for the city’s fitness scene, it’s invigorating that new gym stores are still opening or looming on the horizon. And this Saturday, Philly will officially welcome its youngest: Muse Yoga & Fitness.
Located in Francisville, Muse promotes itself as a hybrid hot yoga and strength training studio, offering both in-person and virtual Vinyasa-based yoga, group fitness, and private workouts in a two-level space. For yoga, you can expect heated and unheated sessions suitable for all skill levels as well as vigorous, heated practice ideal for intermediate to advanced yogis. (Infrared heaters can reach 95 degrees Fahrenheit, by the way.) Muse’s 50-minute group fitness offerings include Grit – a circuit-style class that includes strength-training equipment like kettlebells, dumbbells, and straps. TRX – and Stamina, which is meant to vibrate your pumping heart through HIIT training.
When it comes to personal training, Muse offers three options: individual strength training, private yoga classes, and what the studio calls “Buddy Training,” where you can book a yoga or weight training session with a friend. fitness, family member, coworker or bestie.
Francisville co-founders and residents (and neighbors!) Maggie Greene and Steph Herzka say they both always wanted to open a fitness studio, but ultimately teamed up to create Muse after witnessing the impact. of the pandemic on local industry. “When COVID hit and a lot of studios we loved closed their doors for good, we were devastated,” Greene said. “But COVID has also given us time to slow down and figure out how to make our long-held dream come true in our neighborhood. We are excited to give the Francisville community – as well as instructors who are always looking for a local home base – a new space to move.
They say the name “Muse” comes from the notion of looking within and seeing yourself as an inspiration, with all of its strengths and areas for improvement. It also relates to the other definition of the word which means to reflect, focus or meditate on something, they add. These feelings especially come to life via the yoga studio mural created by a local visual artist. Allegra Yvonne Gia.
Muse will celebrate its grand opening with free classes all weekend – 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 12:20 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Sunday. To consult the schedule and reserve your free seat, go to here.
