17-year-old charged with Beale Street homicide, DA says – FOX13 News Memphis

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – A teenager has been charged with murder and other felony charges. A man was shot and killed while driving a car on Beale Street last year.

According to the Shelby County District Attorney’s Office, a grand jury charged 17-year-old Dorian Seay with first-degree murder, attempted robbery and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

He is being held without bail.

The shots occurred around 9:45 p.m. on April 17, when the victim was driving with a friend on Beale between Main Street and Front Street, the DA said.

As the car was stopped in traffic, someone in a nearby group commented on the car and two people from the group approached.

The victim had play money and Seay tried to catch him, the prosecutor said.

When he failed to grab the money, he pulled out a gun and fired once, hitting the victim in the chest.

The victim’s friend went to several nearby police officers for help.

Officers began first aid after calling paramedics.

The victim was pronounced dead shortly after being taken to hospital, officials said.

The case is handled by Senior Felony Asst. Neil Umsted and Asst. Dist. Atti. Forrest Edwards of the District Attorney’s Vertical Team 3 which prosecutes cases in the General Sessions Division 11 and in the Criminal Court Division.
