Are you looking for the perfect weekend filled with local history? Look no further than this unique town in the state of Hoosier. You’ll find charming shops, rich architecture, and even dark gangster-era history. You might even encounter spooky spirits that haunt the old prison on a nighttime ghost tour.

Crown Point is a beautiful town in northwest Indiana filled with beautiful historic buildings. The town center square has a quaint main street that hosts a seasonal farmer’s market and many local events.

The town is dominated by the courthouse in the center of town, known as the “Grand Old Lady”. This architectural marvel was once called the “Marriage Mill” because you didn’t have to wait to receive a marriage license.

You’ll experience one-of-a-kind shopping in the basement of the courthouse, which houses 13 local stores. There is a record store, a toy store and The Candy Cove, which sells delicious sweets.
The Lake County Sheriff’s House and Jail is an iconic building that once housed the infamous prisoner John Dillinger. Tours are available May through October, and it even offers spooky Halloween events.

You can visit the cell of John Dillinger, from which he escaped in 1934. It is also the setting where Public Enemies was filmed with Johnny Depp playing the American gangster. It offers historical tours during the day and paranormal tours at night. The tour guide has ghost gear to help you spot full body apparitions!

For a breath of fresh air, be sure to visit charming Lemon Lake County Park. Lemon Lake has over 400 acres with walking trails, a dog park, five disc golf courses, a playground, and a toboggan run in the winter.
Vintage shoppers will love visiting the Crown Antique Mall, which has three floors filled to the brim with antiques. During the warmer months it offers an outdoor flea market and hosts a vintage car show.
After a long day of shopping and ghost hunting, grab a bite to eat at Fahrenheit Two Twelve Restaurant. It’s a steakhouse that offers delicious seafood and a well-stocked bar.

You can spend the night in the charming little green house on Airbnb. The quaint home is just five minutes from the historic district and town square.
