Airbnb is cracking down on properties used for New Year’s Eve parties around the world with bans on some guests making one-night bookings for December 31.

The enhanced rules are rolling out after a successful trial last year, Airbnb said.

He explained he was introducing restrictions on certain types of bookings to ‘combat disruptive parties’, with a ban on one night bookings of whole house listings for guests with no positive account history, or no bookings previous at all.

The home rental site added: ‘We are also introducing tighter restrictions for the same customers trying to book two and three night bookings, with a focus on local booking attempts.

“This wider rollout follows the successful trial of these automated defenses in eight countries during NYE last year as part of our efforts to help enforce our global holiday ban, which we codified earlier. this summer.

“We estimate that the measures have contributed to a year-on-year decline in NYE party incident rates of around 6% in the UK, since the defenses were first tested in 2020.

“Last year, approximately 340,000 guests worldwide were blocked or redirected from attempting to book on Airbnb through NYE, including over 34,500 guests in the UK.”

Airbnb revealed that the UK cities where its NYE ​​defenses were most activated in 2022 were London (more than 7,800 times), Manchester (1,350), Brighton (850) and Edinburgh (800).

Airbnb is currently working to encourage more people to become hosts and rent out their properties.

To encourage the reluctant, Airbnb recently unveiled a new feature that offers first-timers advice from the site’s highly experienced “superhosts” who, for a fee paid by the company, provide advice and suggestions.
