Airbnb Harry Potter Inspired House of Witches and Wizards of York

VISITORS to York now have the chance to stay in a spellbinding property created with magic in mind.

Tucked away on a South Bank street, the witch and wizard-themed terrace called 101, House At The End was a labor of love for its 29-year-old owner, Hannah Chapman.

The vacation rental is now available for booking on Airbnb and has been filled with magical and imaginative finds with everything from hanging candles lighting up the hallway to a snake on the bathroom sink, all coming from Hannah’s imagination.

“There’s something for everyone, big and small,” said Hannah, who came to York nearly a decade ago to attend the city’s Northern College of Costume, where she says she fell in love with everything what he had to offer.

Fast forward ten years and she has used her creative talents to create this unique period property for all to enjoy as part of the historic experience that the City of York has to offer.

She said: “The house is not far from York Racecourse and I have restored it to its former glory, showcasing the original features of the cast iron fireplace, wooden floors and quarry tiles, exposing even the property’s original wallpaper dates from the Victorian and Edwardian eras.

“I would say around 85% of the content in the house comes from charity shops, vintage shops, a Facebook market group, recycling centers and eBay, giving new life to old items.

“The house is truly something unique and different and will leave people with unforgettable memories of your stay in York.”

Hannah said she drew a lot of inspiration from films such as Harry Potter, Hocus Pocus and The Adams Family, but the house itself had a say in determining the final look.

“When I bought the house it was very simple with textured wallpaper and carpet covering all the beautiful old wallpaper, quarry tile and wood floors,” Hannah said.

“We stripped it down and in the hall and stairs we found the original Victorian and Edwardian wallpaper, which we were able to preserve.”

She said she bounced around ideas with mum and dad, Shelley and Russ, who live in Derbyshire, and helped with much of the work and is hugely proud of the end result.

The property sleeps four with a four-poster bed in “the Emerald Bedroom” created from scratch by Hannah and her parents, and two bunk beds in the second bedroom.

There is also a separate garden in the courtyard.
