Airbnb now lets you search for stays with stunning views

You can now search Airbnb for listings with amazing views – one of many new categories and search functions that have gone live as part of a major overhaul of the accommodation booking website.

A major update to the travel platform’s user experience includes the ability to search listings through 56 categories, including design (for iconic architecture and interiors), amazing pools, countryside, the incredible views or the historic homes.

The Airbnb team says these were inspired by trends they see in customers – user wishlists with “design” in their title increased 175% in 2020 compared to 2019, for example.

It also introduced an ‘I’m flexible’ search option similar to Skyscanner’s ‘Anywhere’ option for flights – bringing up random listings you might like, how far away they are and the dates they’re available .

The platform also launched a “Split Stays” feature to help travelers book accommodation in two different rentals for one trip, as well as AirCover, a booking protection option that helps protect customers’ money if a host cancels at the last minute or if the listing is not as described.

Airbnb CEO Brian Chesky called the redesign of the home page and search function “the biggest change in a decade”.

Other delightfully specific categories you can now search include Cycladic Homes, Creative Spaces, Wineries, Houseboats, and “OMG!” – that last hollow rounding with a bit of added wow factor.

The AirCover protection feature will be included, free of charge, in all Airbnb stays in the future – the company has previously been criticized for poor guest protection and last-minute cancellations.

“In the unlikely event that a host needs to cancel your reservation within 30 days of check-in, we’ll find you a similar or better home, or refund your money,” reads an Airbnb user description. “Plus, we’ll provide you with a full credit that you can instantly apply to your new booking.”

It comes with a “24 hour security” helpline where the booking platform says “specialists will respond within an average of 30 seconds”.

Last week, the rental site launched a contest to win a €1 overnight stay at the iconic red windmill at the top of the Moulin Rouge nightclub in Paris.

The infamous Parisian nightclub is collaborating with Airbnb on three limited-edition, “once-in-a-lifetime” stays at the instantly recognizable landmark, all in June 2022.
