Airbnb reveals the top 10 trending destinations for the UK

The bank holiday weekend gave us a taste of warmer days to come.

So, as we think about summer, we’re already planning our vacations and (with international travel still on the way) it’s likely to be UK breaks.

And it seems many of us have already been busy researching the best places near home.

Airbnb has unveiled its 10 trending UK destinations, based on year-on-year search growth, and rural areas are gaining popularity, rather than bustling cities.

However, typical star players – such as St Ives and Bournemouth – do not appear to feature in the top 10.

Instead, the lesser-known Saint Clears in Pembrokeshire clinched top spot. The historic Welsh town, located on the River Taf, has seen the biggest surge in searches by Britons this summer – according to Airbnb data.

In second place is the Forest of Dean – a geographical, historical and cultural region of Gloucestershire – followed by the port village of Clovelly in Devon in third place.

The South of England seems to dominate the list, with several places in Sussex, Cornwall and Devon making the top 10 – but perhaps not the places that usually come to mind when you think of these regions.

Amanda Cupples, General Manager for Northern Europe at Airbnb, said: “Our trending destinations show that travel this year is likely to be a little different, with many using a summer closer to home to explore lesser-known rural destinations in more of the beloved favourites.’

If you plan to go further when things reopen, last year Airbnb has unveiled its most sought-after properties in the world – with a cave house in Santorini and an eco-friendly bamboo house in Bali topping the list.
