Airbnb to offer apartment rental program in Wilmington

Two Wilmington apartment buildings will be part of a new Airbnb program.

The program is designed for tenants who want to find a place where they can host and offer the place to Airbnb customers.

Over 175 Airbnb-enabled apartment buildings in over 25 markets across the United States, including Houston, Philadelphia, Phoenix and Jacksonville, plus Wilmington.

The Airbnb-friendly apartments are part of the company’s broader effort to help more people reap the economic benefits of lodging at a time when many are trying to keep pace with the rising cost of living, according to a statement.

Over a three-month period, tenants who hosted in Airbnb-enabled apartment buildings included in the marketplace hosted an average of nine nights per month and earned an average of up to $900 per month.

Airbnb and its hosts have been criticized for allowing apartments in some cities become full-time Airbnb tenants, with tenants claiming they are out of the market. New York City, which has a tight rental market, has sued with what it describes as illegal rentals. The new program seems to be an answer to this problem.

A few years ago, apartments in Wilmington were listed as short-term rentals on social media in posts that later disappeared.

“Airbnb was founded during the Great Recession when Brian and Joe needed help paying their rent, and now Airbnb Compatible Apartments builds on that founding story by making it easier for people to reap the economic benefits of living. As the cost of living continues to rise, renters can use the extra income earned by hosting part-time on Airbnb to contribute to their rent, save for a home, or pay for other living expenses. said Nathan Blecharzyck, co-founder and chief strategy officer of Airbnb.

Prospective tenants in the United States can visit airbnb.com/airbnb-friendly to discover Airbnb-friendly apartments in their neighborhood or in another city. This new program provides potential tenants who want to host part-time with information and tools. The program limits the number of nights a second bedroom in an apartment can be rented and has other requirements.

Delaware is one of the few states that doesn’t charge lodging tax for short-term rentals, which makes per-night fees for Airbnb listings cheaper. Lodging tax in Delaware ranges from 8-11%.
