Airbnb host Ross tells Clarence Ford that he feels the review process is unfair and therefore prefers hosting overseas guests over local guests. He describes how his rating dropped after receiving complaints from six local South Africans.

Corcoran believes the rating system is designed to be completely objective, as guest and host have the opportunity to rate each other.

We recently introduced a mechanism where if a host feels there is a retaliatory review or a completely unfair review, they have the option to remove it.

She says the reason the review system is so critical is because Airbnb has a clear, non-discriminatory policy, and hosts can also see guest reviews before receiving bookings.
