We are hiring Editor, News Editor, Features Editor and Social Media/TikTok Editor
The Bournemouth Tab is currently recruiting for our editorial team. Applications are open for a position in the 2022/23 academic year.
The positions available are Editor-in-Chief, Editor-in-Chief, Editor-in-Chief, Editor-in-Chief, and Social Media Editor. We welcome applications from all students, the only requirement is that you are a student at Bournemouth University or Bournemouth University of the Arts.
We particularly encourage students from minority backgrounds to apply. If you think journalism is generally not accessible to people in your background, please apply. You will benefit from training provided by experienced publishers to enable you to be operational.

Journalism experience can help your application, but even if you’ve never written for The Tab, now is a great time to get involved and take on something new. Also, you get all Bournemouth gossip first. A passion and enthusiasm for writing and journalism, publishing crucial news stories and writing funny stories are important for the role, but being able to work in a team is even more vital.
Chief Editor
As Editor-in-Chief, you will oversee all articles published by The Bournemouth Tab and be responsible for leading the team on all the latest news and stories on campus. You will be the team’s primary point of contact with The Tab HQ team.
You will be responsible for organizing the team meeting every week and knowing who does what. You will work alongside section editors to motivate and help editors maintain a steady schedule of published articles.
You’ll write news and feature stories, while working with section editors to create a weekly list of pitch ideas to send to your writing team for them to clamor for; then edit and publish the articles that your team of writers submits to you.
Your job as editor is to keep The Bournemouth Tab up to date with all the latest news and to make sure the whole team is motivated and working on something new so that The Bournemouth Tab is as good as possible. The role is truly rewarding and a great opportunity to get involved in leading a team.
The right person for this role is someone who is pleasant, friendly, approachable and has good leadership skills, as you will be spending a lot of time communicating and motivating not only your editorial team, but also your team of writers. These skills are also valuable for recruiting new writers.
news editor
The Bournemouth tab is always on the lookout for the next big story, as editor your biggest responsibility is to report on the latest scoop from Bournemouth. You’ll need to have your eye on a good story, always be on top of the latest news, controversies and happenings, and have a passion to report the scoop before anyone else. It’s essential to keep up to date with the latest news from Bournemouth, from campus protests to major university announcements.
You will also assist the Editor-in-Chief with article writing and writing each week, proposing article proposals and orders, and supporting the editors. The roles of section editors are not black and white and you can also be expected to regularly write and edit feature articles, not just news.
Feature Editor
This role is for anyone who wants to take on the big elements of The Bournemouth Tab. You will be responsible for writing and editing the iconic team elements that make The Bournemouth Tab as great as it is.
You’ll work on articles that cover current opinions, fun guides and witty commentary on campus life, you’ll also oversee the quizzes, opinion pieces, guides and other fun stories we write. Rate outfits on campus or chat about the best club in London – as a feature editor you’ll take a keen interest in all things Bournemouth students.
You will also assist the Editor-in-Chief with article writing and writing each week, proposing article proposals and orders, and supporting the editors. The roles of section editors are not black and white and you can also be expected to regularly write and edit news articles, not just feature articles.
social media editor
Your job will be to manage The Bournemouth Tab’s ever-growing social media channels across Instagram, Facebook and TikTok.
If you have a great knack for creating your own memes relevant to Bournemouth and the student lifestyle, want to promote a brand image, or just like to scroll around all day, this is the one for you. Your responsibilities will include advertising our articles, posting regular daily content to our stories, sharing memes, growing our audience, and keeping our followers engaged. You must also be comfortable in front of the camera to create innovative content for our TikTok page.
You’ll also help the editorial team keep tabs on Bournemouth-related content and monitor the latest campus news and gossip. This role does not include editing articles.
