Austin announces star-studded lineup for Quesoff 2022

Austinites and San Antonians can arguing over breakfast tacos all day, but one thing is for sure. East Austin the nerdiest town in texas, and Quesoff, the city’s melted cheese anthem, is proof of that. Tickets for the 2022 version of the annual Liquid Gold Contest for sale Tuesday August 9th. Held at the Mohawk on Red River Street, the queso will be on display as far as the eye can see on October 8 from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m.

The event, which includes a long list of attendees and costs $20 — pocket change for anyone who likes that sort of thing — benefits Central Texas Food Bank.

Previous winners of the event include Better Half, Eldorado Cafe and Cheesus Queso. Among the remaining attendees are representatives from La Condesa, Vamonos, Trudy’s, Distant Relatives, Carpenters Hall, Tejas Birria, Waco’s Hawk’s Hot Chicken and many more. (Seriously, check out this list.) Franklin Barbecue will provide the house queso for 2022, and HEB will provide chips.

Quesoff also announced its judges for the contest, which include a trio of restaurateurs — Aaron Franklin of Franklin Barbecue, Beto Robledo of Cuatos Tacos and Rosa de Lima H of La Santa Barbacha — plus Austin American food critic Matthew Odam and member of Austin City Council Vanessa Fuentes. The five lucky judges will determine the winners in four categories: Meat, Spicy, Vegetarian and Wild Card. A master cheesemaker will win the Best in Show award.
