Bangkok ranked #1 trending global destination on Airbnb in 2022

BANGKOK, THAILAND – Airbnb ends the year with an arc, revealing the categories and destinations that topped the charts in 2022, and offering a glimpse of what 2023 has in store for travel. And just in time for year-end travel, Airbnb introduced new platform features to create a more seamless and memorable experience for guests and hosts.

Searches in the first and third quarters of 2022 for check-ins in 2022 compared to the same period in 2021 led to Bangkok becoming the top trending destination for Airbnb travelers globally in 2022:

3. Málaga, Spain
4. Seoul, South Korea
5. Melbourne, Australia
6. Itapema, Brazil
7. Angra dos Reis, Brazil
8. Capao da Canoa, Brazil
9. Auckland, New Zealand

Bangkok’s popularity as a top destination will continue into 2023, as searches in the first and third quarters of 2022 for future check-ins in 2023 rank the city currently number five on Airbnb’s list of places most popular travel options on Airbnb in 2023:

1. Málaga, Spain
2. Sydney, Australia
3. Melbourne, Australia
4. Auckland, New Zealand
5. Bangkok, Thailand

After launching Airbnb Categories in May this year, Airbnb has added six new categories to support guest travel this festive season, including: New Homes; Top houses in the world; Trendy houses; Adapted houses; Gambling houses; and Hanoks.

Based on bookings from May 11 to September 30, here are the top travel categories in 2022 for Thai customers:

3. Beach
4. Tropical
5. shared houses

Meanwhile, the most popular international destinations for Thai travelers in 2022 are:
