Bedouin tents donated to supporters traveling to Doha

Fans with World Cup tickets who struggle to find a hotel room in Doha will be offered Bedouin-style desert tents as Qatar expands accommodation options for the tournament in November.

More than 1.2 million tourists are expected in the Gulf state for the month-long football festival, but not all of them can easily find accommodation.

Neighboring GCC nations will take over, and many fans plan to use the United Arab Emirates as a base and fly to Qatar for games.

Organizers in Qatar said 1,000 tents will be for rent, 200 of them offering luxury “glamping” accommodation for those who need a more comfortable environment, Reuters reported. Pricing was not yet available.

“In total, we have over 100,000 rooms and there are still new options,” said Omar Al Jaber, head of accommodation at tournament organizer Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy.

“We will give fans the opportunity to live in a desert, to give visitors an authentic taste of Qatari camping.”

Qatar Tourism said around 30,000 hotel rooms were available, but many fans directed to booking portals after buying tickets were unable to find accommodation as 24,000 of those rooms are reserved for FIFA. and tournament sponsors.

More rooms are expected to become available closer to the tournament kick-off on November 21 as block bookings no longer required by teams, media and match officials are released.

Non-hotel accommodation has been supplemented for the World Cup with 4,000 cabins aboard two cruise ships docked in Doha Port for around $350 a night.

Temporary fan sites in converted $200-a-night shipping containers on the outskirts of town are available, as are villas and shared apartments that offer Airbnb-style stays.

Regional airlines and private charter operators have arranged additional landing slots during the tournament, with more than 180 daily shuttle flights expected to Doha from neighboring cities.

Only those with a registered fan ID card for the tournament, along with a match ticket, will have access to Qatar for the duration of the tournament which ends on December 18.

In May, it was announced that residents of Qatar would be allowed to welcome a limited number of tourists.

A maximum of 10 guests will be allowed to stay at a residential address, provided it is registered with the official FIFA World Cup Qatar accommodation website. https://www.qatar2022.qa/en/home.
