Roller coaster riders have been stranded in Blackpool after a famous attraction broke down.

Passengers on the Big One got stranded this afternoon when the fun stopped.

Blackpool’s iconic Pleasure Beach attraction attracts thousands of customers over the summer and towers over the seaside town.

Several people were there at the time, according to eyewitnesses.

Opened in 1994, the ride was once the highest and steepest in the world and remains the largest in the UK.

An eyewitness said LancsLive: “I spotted passengers in a car on the large hover on the platform near the end of the ride getting up from their seats.”

A ‘theme park expert’ told the outlet: ‘It is likely to be running on a two-train service, and one train had to be stopped immediately before entering the station, possibly changing- be a wheel, and that’s just the area where the other train would stop if that were the case.

A Blackpool Pleasure Beach spokesperson has confirmed the issue has been resolved.

They said: “There was a 10 minute stop on the ride earlier. The ride is now fully operational.

This is by no means the first time the Big One has collapsed mid-round.

Unlucky customers had to descend a terrifying 230ft staircase from the top of the rollercoaster in April 2021.
