Book an off-the-grid getaway to the Black Shack, a new Cork hideaway (with a private jetty)

The glow of moonlight on the water will be the only source of light to interrupt your sleep at The Black Shack, a brand new off-the-grid Airbnb now taking reservations in Skibbereen.

Run by hosts Andrew and Olivia, who live just 2km away with their baby boy, Archie, the romantic little house is located on the waterfront with your own private jetty offering views of Heir Island and The Beacon in Baltimore in the distance .

The doty habitation consists of two cabins, one with your own private bathroom and a gas shower with a view and a second cabin with a double bed, kitchenette and gas stove.

A five-day cooler with ice is provided to keep all your essentials (and booze) cool, while solar panels provide light and enough power to charge a cellphone.

You can bring enough goodies and groceries to sustain you throughout your stay or head to the local fish market for the fresh catch of the day to cook on the BBQ.

“Our Little Black Shack is the perfect escape for couples or singles looking for a refreshing natural life.” say the hosts.

“The lack of Wi-Fi, TV and electricity brings you back to nature. Fly away for a coastal break with a difference. You will return home with the wind in your sails fully restored.”

“We did barbecues for breakfast, lunch and dinner”

Although it’s only been open since the summer, the Black Shack has received rave reviews from customers:

“I think this is probably my favorite AirBnB we’ve ever stayed in,” said Becky, who visited in September.

“Literally steps from the sea, with your own pontoon to swim. It’s the perfect getaway, completely private and away from the world. The hosts have really thought of everything while keeping the cabin wonderfully minimal. I can not wait to return to.

“Five stars doesn’t begin to cover this Airbnb,” said Christine, who stayed in August.

“The location is absolutely amazing, sitting right by the sea with a wooden pontoon for swimming. The house is beautifully appointed and is so cozy and comfortable. We had barbecues for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

If you fancy an excursion during your stay, there’s a ferry to Heir Island just a five-minute walk away. Nightly prices for the Black Shack start at 155€ on Airbnb, with dates available throughout the winter.
