Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul’s appearance in Dallas drew a crowd of fans
Thousands of fans lined up in the cold several blocks around the store to get a bottle signed by the actors. Many had camped since dawn and a few had been there all night. Some fans had taken their places in line with tables, chairs and blankets.
The store did its best to keep the queue inside, but all media (including the Observer, The Dallas Morning News, paper townWFAA, NBC5 and “CulturePop“, as the store manager called it when complaining about the confusion – it’s CultureMap) had indicated that the time of the event would be from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. instead of 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The time had been provided by the public relations company under contract with Dos Hombres, KLG Public Relations, without any follow-up or request to update schedules.
It’s possible that the confusion didn’t make a difference. The turnout likely exceeded the number of people Cranston and Paul could meet in 90 minutes.
We were told we could cover the event and were brought to the signing table, much to the irritation of Aaron Paul, who thought we were cutting the line.
Fans showed up in breaking BadThe iconic yellow hazmat suits, “Heisenberg” hats, Los Pollos Hermanos t-shirts, even a sweater that read “What would Jesse do?” They had to buy a Dos Hombres bottle for $60 to get a wristband that would allow them to pass through the queue to get her signed.
Some families have brought their young children, who we hope have only known Cranston for Malcolm in the middle.
One fan in particular took the opportunity by waiting his turn in front of Cranston and Paul, then getting down on one knee to propose to his girlfriend. The actors congratulated them and took a photo with the couple.
Cranston and Paul drove off in a black SUV with the windows down, and as they drove past, they waved to the crowd of fans who weren’t lucky enough to meet them. Paul stood through the car’s sunroof and filmed the line as he drove off.
Things seemed to go a lot easier when they were selling meth.
