Cleaning tips: remove teacup stains “in minutes” with a 10p product and “without rubbing”

Do you notice dark spots and marks inside your tea cups and coffee mugs? There is an easy way to get rid of it and it involves no rubbing. Express.co.uk spoke to Howard Moss, CEO of amaze on the best products for the job.

Stains on the inside of a ceramic cup or mug are caused by tannins.

Tannins are a type of plant compound found naturally in foods and beverages, such as tea, coffee, chocolate, and wine.

The tannins do not stain the cups immediately, this will happen over time.

Some people choose to bleach the inside of their mugs to banish stains, but bleach may not get rid of tannin buildup, it will only bleach the area.

“Place cups, saucers, etc. stained in the sink or on the dish rack as the reaction may be vigorous and the water may overflow.

“Fill with hot (almost boiling) water and allow to cool for one to two hours.
