Digital creator Tinx apologizes for ‘really mean, mean and horrible’ old tweets: ‘Beyond embarrassment’

Social media star Tinx apologized for a series of resurfaced and grossophobic tweets from 10 years ago – but for some fans his silence on more recent tweets, including politically conservative posts and tweets that invoke xenophobia and racism as of 2020, is deafening.

The 31-year-old TikTok and Instagram personality, whose real name is Christina Najjar, issued a lengthy apology to Instagram on Monday in which she addressed decade-old tweets to body and fat shaming celebrities like Kim Kardashian and Tori Spelling.

“I always say if you don’t crumble a year ago you don’t grow. I’m more than cringe / I’m more than embarrassed and want to take responsibility,” she wrote. . “Guys, I screwed up and I’m going to own it and be straight with you.”

Tinx admitted that around 10 years ago she was “sending out really mean, nasty, awful tweets”, calling people she’d never met “fat, pathetic and ugly”.

“I even called Kim Kardashian fat, which is ironic considering she’s my number one idol and the person I look up to,” she wrote. “When I read the tweets I’m ashamed and embarrassed. They’re mean and I’m not mean, but I was.”

the It’s me Tinx the podcast host – who told PEOPLE in March that she was diagnosed with anxiety at 13 and had been in therapy for 18 – went on to note that at the time she wrote the tweets she was a “deeply, deeply anxious” 21-year-old struggling to make peace with body image issues.

“I hated myself and had a bad relationship with my body. I was also extremely lost,” she wrote. “I’ve told you guys about it before. About being so lost and wanting to find a passion and find my voice. So I tried many hats, one of which was a mean tweeter to make people laugh. And that isn’t funny at all.”

She concluded her note by saying that the tweets “are not representative of who I am.”

“I’m so sorry. I’m a work in progress,” she wrote.

Despite the lengthy post, many fans took issue with the fact that Tinx made no mention of a series of tweets from 2020, some of which she wrote, and some of which she liked and retweeted, which described conservative political ideologies as well as racist undertones. She, however, denied voting for Donald Trump in 2016 and 2020.

The tweets were first revealed on the r/tinxsnark subreddit on Reddit, and were later amplified in the Substack Scroll with Sophie. They included messages originally shared by Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump, as well as British Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

A tweet from Tinx, shared in April 2020, also criticized California Governor Gavin Newsom for taking lockdown measures to prevent the virus from spreading.

“So Tinx apologized for the big shame but didn’t address the 2020 stuff,” added another.

Tinx took questions from fans during an “Ask Me Anything” session on Instagram on Monday morning and replied “No.” after a fan asked, “Tinx, just yes or no. Did you vote for Trump THE OTHER TIME?”
