Dubai car rental industry sees 24% growth in H1 2022: RTA

According to Dubai‘s Road and Transport Authority (RTA), the car rental industry in the emirate saw a significant growth of 23.7% in the number of registered businesses in the first half of 2022, compared to 1,087 registered businesses. at the same time last year.

Additionally, 78,000 vehicles were registered in the first half of 2022, up 11.8% from 69,000 in the same period last year.

Abdulla Yousef Al Ali, CEO, Licensing Agency, RTA, said: “The rapid expansion of the car rental industry in Dubai during the first half of 2022 underscores RTA’s efforts in implementing the overall vision of the Dubai development. By providing facilities and overcoming barriers, RTA is able to attract businesses and investors, and build their confidence in Dubai’s business environment. It also highlights Dubai’s profile as a financial and commercial hub, a place where business can be conducted in a friendly and competitive atmosphere.

Al Ali added: “Following periodic meetings with several companies in this sector, RTA has undertaken six initiatives which have had a significant impact on the operation of the car rental market. Initiatives included exempting new vehicles from testing, limiting the number to 10 vehicles per car rental licence, extending the life of in-service vehicles from two to four years and removing the surcharge on car rental vehicles.
