East Hartford man with multiple warrants arrested after allegedly stealing trailer in Manchester

An East Hartford man with multiple outstanding warrants was arrested and charged with a theft of a trailer in Manchester on Thursday, police say.

The Manchester Police Department responded to Spencer Street near the Interstate 384 exit in Manchester around 3pm Thursday to a call from a witness reporting a white van with a flat tire in the area. The caller believed the truck was involved in the theft of his trailer and had followed the vehicle to East Hartford, police say.

A second caller then told police that a white van was crossing Downey Drive and had stopped after losing a tire. The caller told police the driver then fled on foot to East Hartford and may be carrying a gun. Police later determined through testimony that no firearms were seen, police said.

Manchester and East Hartford Police responded to the area and the suspect, identified as Andre Jorden, 26, of East Hartford, was found hiding in a shed on Arbutus Street, police said.

Jorden was arrested and convicted of having outstanding warrants, including one from the white truck he was seen driving. The truck was reported stolen in Middletown, according to police.

Jorden has been charged with motor vehicle theft, first degree criminal trover, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, evasion of responsibility and operation of a motor vehicle without license. He also received three outstanding warrants for violating probation, police said.

He was held on $170,000 bail and was due in court on Friday.
