Details on the circumstances surrounding the shooting remained limited on Sunday evening. He remains under investigation by the South Carolina State Law Enforcement Division.

Just a day earlier, a separate mass shooting took place at a mall in Columbia, South Carolina, the state capital about 100 miles north of Furman.

Fourteen people were injured after a gunman opened fire in the Columbiana Center mall, but no one was killed. The victims were as young as 15, while the oldest victim was a 73-year-old woman who was still receiving medical treatment earlier on Sunday.

Police have arrested 22-year-old Jewayne M. Price in connection with the shooting and expect to charge him with unlawfully carrying a gun. He could also face other charges later.

Police believe the shooting was an isolated incident that likely stemmed from an ongoing conflict.

“This was not a situation where a random person showed up at a mall to unload a gun [and] hurt people,” Columbia Police Department Chief WH ‘Skip’ Holbrook said during a press briefing.

Meanwhile, two people, both underage, have been killed and nine others injured in a third mass shooting at a party at an Airbnb in Pittsburgh early on Easter Sunday.

Police responded to the shooting just after 12:30 a.m. and found “several youths” fleeing the area. Some of the 200 party attendees attempted to flee by jumping out of windows. As many as 50 shots were fired inside the Airbnb, and several more were fired outside.

In total, there have been 139 mass shootings in the United States so far in 2022, according to Gun Violence Archive, an organization that tracks shootings across the country. He defines a mass shooting as four or more people shot in a single incident, not including the shooter.

The violent Easter weekend follows a mass shooting in a New York City subway on Tuesday. A man threw two smoke grenades and shot the passengers on the train bound for Manhattan. Twenty-nine people were injured, 10 of whom suffered gunshot wounds. Police arrested suspected shooter Frank James on Wednesday.
