Former Cherry Danjuma ‘excited’ about Foley takeover

ARNAUT Danjuma has shared how he will always be grateful for his time at Vitality Stadium, saying: “Without Bournemouth I wouldn’t be here today”.

Winger Danjuma reached the Champions League semi-finals with Villareal last season, before being a controversial omission from the Netherlands’ World Cup squad.

An injured first season at Cherries was combined with the disappointment of relegation from the Premier League, before a personally improved second season was met with the team missing out on promotion from the Championship.

In an interview with Athletic, the 25-year-old shared: “Bournemouth have always been good to me and I had a great time there.

“It’s the club that set me up and helped me achieve so much. Without Bournemouth, I wouldn’t be here today.

“I always try to aim for the highest level possible.

“Going to Bournemouth seemed like the right decision, but it didn’t work out in the best possible way.

“Not staying in the Premier League in the first season played a part in me leaving and in the end it wasn’t meant to be.

“Villarreal made an offer which I thought was a perfect opportunity to play Champions League football again.”

Danjuma also shared his excitement at seeing his former club resumed earlier this month.

The Dutch winger joined current club Villarreal from Cherries in 2021 after two seasons on the south coast.

While Bill Foley spearheaded the £150million takeover, other minority owners have captured the imagination, with Hollywood actor Michael B Jordan garnering a lot of attention.

Danjuma continued, “I’m excited for them.

“I just hope the players don’t turn to acting! They have to stay focused on football, right!

“But seriously, Bournemouth has always been run the right way and it shows when you’re part of the club.

“It has always been a family environment and there is a very strong solidarity.

“Whatever Bournemouth does in terms of the owners, they will make sure it is the right way.”
