Gloucester, MA Beach voted one of the best in the country

We are so lucky to live in a part of the country with beautiful white sand beaches. I say lucky because many tourists don’t know how much sun, sand and ocean we have.

While I love having some of the best beaches just a short drive away, I cringe whenever one is nationally recognized. Why? Because more people will be looking for it and we won’t have this gem to ourselves anymore. Is it selfish? Perhaps.

Travel and leisure unveiled its top 25 beaches in the United States, and Good Harbor Beach in Gloucester, Massachusetts ranked No. 15.

That’s quite an honor considering most people in the US don’t think the Northeast has great beaches.

The beaches of Massachusetts’ North Shore have always been some of the most beautiful. Also recently travellifestyle.net released the 8 Best Beaches in Massachusetts, ranking Crane Beach in Ipswich, MA #1.

Both posts are correct.

Good Harbor Beach in Gloucester, MA is a family beach with a wild sandbar at low tide, allowing you to stroll to Salt Island, a rocky spot in the harbor.

There are concessions, bathrooms and plenty of soft white sand to build sand castles all day long. No flotation devices are allowed, but you can rent water toys from the concession stand.

Parking is limited for all Massachusetts beaches, so buy your parking passes early online.

Crane Beach in Ipswich, MA is a favorite for its long, white-sand beach offering hours of walking on the beach or on trails through the dunes.

There are concessions, a beach house to change into, bathrooms and a small beach shop. You can bring skim boards and beach games for hours of family fun, and if you walk far enough you might see an old shipwreck.

Enjoy a day at the beach with your family, friends or alone. Summer doesn’t last very long in the northeast, so enjoy the short drive now and remember that the water temperature won’t warm up for a few months.
