Hannemann, Ingram, of Hawaii, appointed to US Travel and Tourism Advisory Board: Big Island Now

Peter Ingram, president and CEO of Hawaiian Airlines, and Mufi Hannemann, president and CEO of the Hawai’i Lodging & Tourism Association, have been appointed for a two-year term to the American Travel Advisory Board and tourism.

The announcement of the 32 board members was made on January 12 by US Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo.

“Travel and tourism came back strong in 2022 as we once again opened up our country to visitors from around the world,” Secretary Raimondo said in a press release. “Since day one of the Biden administration, the Commerce Department has taken decisive action to support the recovery of this industry.

“The US Travel and Tourism Advisory Council plays a vital role in providing expert recommendations and industry insights to optimize the travel experience in the United States. I look forward to working with new members and old members.

The 32-member Board of Directors serves as an advisory body to Secretary Raimondo and the Department of Commerce on issues and concerns affecting the national travel and tourism industry. Members represent the breadth of the US travel industry, with representatives from state and city tourism authorities, airports and airlines, hotel chains, trade associations and unions.

Hannemann said he was “honored to represent the Hawaiian Islands in bringing our priorities to the Secretary of Commerce.”

US Travel Association President and CEO Geoff Freeman said, “This exceptional and diverse group of leaders will provide invaluable expertise to Secretary Raimondo and the Commerce Department as the United States tackles the issues. urgent to develop the travel industry. Hannemann has led the Hawai’i Lodging & Tourism Association since 2015 and served as the organization’s director from 2011 to 2012.

While mayor of Honolulu, he chaired the U.S. Tourism, Arts, Parks, Entertainment and Sports Committee of the United States Conference of Mayors, which for the first time championed inclusion of the tourism industry in the mayors’ “10 Point Plan for America’s Cities”.

Hannemann served as a White House member in the office of then-Vice President George HW Bush. Prior to this Commerce Department appointment, he was appointed by consecutive Presidential administrations to positions in the US Departments of Transportation, Labor, State, and Interior.
