If you’re planning on traveling locally for your next getaway, here are a few places you’ll want to visit (and take advantage of that Ontario staycation tax credit too)!
Local travel influencers told Narcity their favorite vacation destinations in Ontario, and from pretty cabins to turquoise waters, these places will leave you with a lot of wanderlust.
Birch Cottage
Ontario sisters Christine and Sarah MacLean at @wellnesstravelled are always looking for unique getaways and adventures, and this Airbnb getaway stands out as one of their favorite destinations in Ontario.
“Birchwood Cottage is a lakeside Airbnb in the Haliburton Highlands,” they explain to Narcity. “From the moment we arrived we were blown away by the stunning interior decor.”
“It has a warm Canadian vibe straight out of a design magazine. We loved using the hot tub on chilly nights. We were so impressed with the durable cleaning supplies and toiletries available to guests. And we loved that it’s dog-friendly! It’s also close to the famous Haliburton Forest and Wildlife Preserve, which offers a ton of year-round activities.”
Fairmont Royal York
Marilou Moles, an Ottawa-based blogger at @20 years, is all about a big-city getaway, and its top pick is Toronto’s luxurious Fairmont Royal York. Located in the heart of the city, the landmark is close to many attractions, and she mentioned some of her favorite things to do while there.
“Whether you’re looking for an outdoor adventure, a new culinary discovery or a cozy night in one of the city’s fabulous hotels (like the Fairmont Royal York, Hotel X Toronto, the Toronto Marriott City Centre), Toronto has something FUN for EVERYONE,” she tells Narcity.
“A Toronto getaway is like a getaway from the world! As one of the most diverse cosmopolitan cities, you can surely find the food you crave in SIX. Let’s not forget the tours and world-class attractions, great shopping and of course that iconic skyline topped by the CN Tower is simply unbeatable!”
Glen Oro Farm
Kirsten Wendlandt, who shares dream travel inspirations and more at his blog, says Glen Oro Farm is his favorite destination. “There’s a place I’ve been going to every year for the past few years, and it’s quickly become my all-time favorite destination in Ontario,” she says.
“Located in Oro-Medonte, just 1.5 hours drive from Toronto, Glen Oro Farm is the perfect place for a getaway that combines luxury and nature with a unique glamping experience.”

Blogger duo Stephanie Griffin and Rachel Sawicki at @modernglobetrotters are always up for a new adventure, but one Ontario spot stands out from the rest. “Our favorite destination in Ontario that we’ve traveled to is Tobermory,” they told Narcity.
“We love that you can relax in a cabin or at the beach and if you’re feeling adventurous you have the chance to explore one of the many natural sites. We highly recommend kayaking in Georgian Bay at through the crystal clear water, where you will be able to see many sunken shipwrecks. Tobermory offers the perfect balance of activity and relaxation, whether you are traveling alone or with friends/family!”
Stratford
Luis Cabrera, blogger and creator of @lostwithluis, is all about that old-world feel. “One of my favorite places to visit in Ontario is Stratford,” he says.
“It’s a quaint town just 2 hours from Toronto which makes it very convenient for a day trip. Stratford has an amazing restaurant scene, lovely shops and historic atmosphere. The River Avon is perfect for walk around and have lunch on the water.This is by far one of my favorite towns to visit in Ontario.
Marriott Fallsview Hotel & Spa
Toronto travel blogger Loki Lee shares all of her “magical adventures in Canada” on her account @lokiexplore, and when it comes to vacationing in Ontario, she says she “loves[s] stay at the Marriott Fallsview.”
With a view of the mighty falls, the hotel is close to many area attractions and activities.
“I love visiting the Niagara region because of the breathtaking views and fun attractions it offers year-round,” she explains. “From touring the falls, to shopping at the Outlet Collection, to wine tasting, there’s always something for everyone. I also love visiting Niagara-on-the-Lake! The quaint little town is full of shops and a unique charm!”
Fairmont Chateau Laurier
Travel writer Christopher Mitchell at @travelingmitch has been to 80 different countries, and when it comes to vacationing in Ontario, he would choose a stay in the nation’s capital.
“Staying at Chateau Laurier never loses its charm and leaves you right in the city center to explore,” he says. He also mentions the wide variety of activities that Ottawa offers.
“It’s hard to think of a better city in Canada for museums, and if you’ve had enough of museums and want to spend time outdoors, a stroll along the Rideau Canal is always an option. Not to mention that there are great restaurants, nightlife, and some funky neighborhoods that deserve more love like Hintonburg!”
Prince Edward County
According to Eleni Kyri, a Toronto blogger from @bijuleni, Prince Edward County is a must-see. “My go-to destination for a fun weekend is always Prince Edward County,” she says.
“This wine country never disappoints and is the perfect year-round escape. From must-visit wineries and restaurants to quirky antique shops and sand dunes, everyone must visit PEC at least once.”
Small cottage by the lake
Kristine Papilla, blogger at @tinemeetsworld, had an amazing summer getaway at an Airbnb in Ontario. “The Tiny Lake Front cottage in Golden Lake that I found on Airbnb stuck with me last summer,” she told Narcity. “The beautiful accommodation had everything I needed for an eventful and hassle-free getaway!”
She lists a number of positive features of her stay, such as the outdoor barbecue, provision of linens and beach towels, free rental of equipment, a fire pit and a swimming pool.
“The whole place was so serene and private; no big parties, no crowds, a beautiful cabin full of character, unique and vintage appliances, […] and decor that are truly conversation starters and true to the “Canadian cabin” brand. Needless to say, we had a great time here and highly recommend!”
