Here’s When Michigan’s Minimum Wage Increase Will Take Effect
Michiganders earning minimum wage will see their wages increase starting in 2023.
It’s because of Michigan Workforce Wages and Opportunity Improvement Act of 2018
Michigan’s minimum wage set to rise in 2023
Beginning January 1, 2023, Michigan workers earning minimum wage will see their wages increase from $9.87 to $10.10 per hour.
For tipped employees, the hourly rate of pay increases to $3.84 per hour.
One thing that won’t change on Jan. 1 is the current training wage of $4.25 an hour for newly hired employees ages 16 to 19 for their first 90 days of employment.
When did Michigan get minimum wage?
Almost 60 years ago, in 1964, the State of Michigan implemented a minimum wage law. The law was put in place to set minimum wages for employees within the state and to:
- Prohibit wage discrimination
- Ensure the administration and enforcement of this Act
- Advise penalties for violation of this act.

Ohio Minimum Wage

- January 1, 2024, $14.00
