I stayed at a “haunted” Airbnb for two nights and this is what happened

For some, staying in a hotel or a haunted house is an unforgettable experience, but when I found out that my friends had booked an Airbnb in a building that was once a mental hospital, all I could think was that ghosts were going to visit me. the night.

I was heading to Traverse City, Michigan, to attend a high school friend’s wedding, and was staying with a group of friends.

My friend who booked the accommodation slyly told me a week before the wedding that the condo was in an old mental hospital that had been renovated – and that it might or might not be haunted.

Like someone whose heartbeat still goes up think going into a haunted house for fun, I immediately started to panic.

All I could think of was the season of “American Horror Story” set in an insane asylum.

For those who like to watch paranormal TV shows, this would be such a fun place. The place used to be called the Traverse City State Hospital, but is now called The Village at Traverse City Commons.

I didn’t research the place too much because I didn’t want to go down a rabbit hole and scare myself, but when I stopped by on a gloomy late summer day, I didn’t couldn’t help but feel like I was entering a very haunted building.

As you can see from the photo above, this place looks just spooky!

The tall towers, large windows and faded brickwork make it very eerie.

Inside, however, you would have no idea of the building used to serve as a hospital. Sure, the walls are all brick in the basement, but it’s full of cute little shops, cafes, and restaurants.

The condo we stayed in was absolutely beautiful as well. It was on the top floor, had giant ceilings and was completely renovated. I actually wanted to move in when I got there.

After having an amazing dinner in the basement of the building (if you’re ever in Traverse City, you’ll definitely want to eat at Trattoria Stella) it was time for bed, which was when I dreaded since his arrival.

I’m not ashamed to say this, but the first thing I did when I entered my room was to burn some dried sage. I was probably exaggerating, but whatever! I wanted to let the evil spirits know that I was not kidding.

My room was basically a loft, so I felt like I was in the attic of the apartment, which scared me a little. My bedroom was also dark, and once I heard a creak after closing my eyes, of course I slept with the lights on for the rest of the night. It sucked, but it was the only way for me to rest without panicking.

I did the same the second night – especially knowing that there would be no spooky spirits coming to haunt me in my sleep. When I got home I finally did some research and learned that the hospital was a very positive place and not straight out of a horror movie.

But still, the thrill of knowing there could be any type of supernatural spirit out there is still quite appealing to those who live for that kind of stuff.

So if you need a place to stay (or just visit and take a ride), I can’t recommend The Village at Traverse City Commons highly enough.

If anything, you’ll have a fun story to tell about how you stayed in a haunted hotel.
