While researching affordable Airbnbs, I found one that was very unique. He offered something the others didn’t. Let’s just say it offered a unique perspective.
The title of the list read, Private guesthouse, in a gated nudist resort. Ok, I did not expect this. I was shocked to say the least. Although I visited a nude beach in California, I had no idea there were nude resorts in Indiana.
The list went on to say,
We live the bare life. For those unfamiliar with nudity… We are nudists, not swingers!! Nudity does not involve sex. We don’t like tan lines. We believe in body acceptance. All colors, shapes and sizes. We believe there is no perfect body, but every body is perfect.
Living the bare life? Well, I had to learn more. So, I googled it and the term nude recreation came up.
What is nude recreation?
Naked recreation refers to the recreational activities that some people engage in while naked. Historically, the ancient Olympics were nude events.
Then, to see how many nudist resorts were located in Indiana, I googled it. There are seven nudist resorts in Hoosier State.
1. Drakes Ridge Rustic Nudist Retreat – Bennington, IN
According to them website,
Our family naturist camp is nestled in the hills and valleys of the beautiful Swiss county of Indiana, where the atmosphere is always calm and relaxing. Wake up in the morning to birdsong and watch white-tailed deer quench their thirst by the pond. 2. Fern Hills Club – Bloomington, IN
Fern Hills Club it’s just that, a club. You can become a member and visit whenever you want, or schedule a visit if you’re not a member. There are rules and principles that everyone must respect during the visit
In July 2022, the club is hosting a recreational nudist convention for the AANR organization.

3. Sun Aura Resort – Lake Village, IN
Sun Aura Resort has a long history of privacy, space and enjoyment for its guests.
Sun Aura Resort is an incredible optional resort located in northern Indiana off of I-65. Sun Aura has been a nudist/clothing optional campground since the 1930s! Over 300 acres of woods and trails, with RV and tent.
They have a big Facebook page with all activities and events, at the optional resort, listed. Below is a comment from a previous customer.
4. Sun Shower Country Club – Centerville, IN
Country Club Sun Shower is surrounded by beautiful woods.
Set on over 120 acres, there is plenty for people to do and also secluded private spots for those who prefer some down time. Our swimming pool is very large and allows rafts to sunbathe. A picnic area protected by an umbrella by the pool provides a place for meals, reading, conversation, etc.

5. Ponderosa Sun Club – Demotte, IN
Unlike other resorts, the Ponderosa Sun Club is strictly for adults only. After trying to find a video to put in this section of the article, I realized I had to say it very clearly.
Now, I know you’d think all resort-optional resorts would be adults-only, but some families, like the one I saw in Black Beach, Calif., enjoy clothing-optional freedom together.

6. Sunny Haven Recreation Park – Granger, IN
The Sunny Haven website describes the park like this,
… Sunny Haven Recreation Park. We have often been told that we are one of the most beautiful and friendliest nudist parks in the Midwest. Sunny Haven was founded in 1947, on the back portion of our founder’s farm. 75 years later, we are a modern nudist park, loved by people who come for daytime recreation and relaxation, and those who enjoy camping with RVs, trailers and tents (or staying in one of our cabins ).
The park has a restaurant called The Toasted Bun. I roll ! Too funny.

7. Land o’ the Woods Club – Valparaiso, IN
The club is considered one of the oldest recreational nudist clubs in the United States.
The founding members of Lake O’ The Woods acquired the lake and surrounding acreage from the Sager family in 1933 and established what is now the second oldest nudist club in the country. A daughter of one of the founders reportedly said “It’s such a pretty lake in the woods”…and the name stuck.
