Indy woman named best new Airbnb host in Indiana

INDIANAPOLIS — An Indianapolis woman’s cozy rental near the East Side has earned her Airbnb bragging rights.

Thanks to her 1-bedroom, 1-bathroom home in the Cottage Home neighborhood, Amy Lapka has been named the 2022 Best New Airbnb Host for the entire state of Indiana.

“Welcome to our quirky blue cottage in the city,” reads its first line site list.

The cottage, which comfortably sleeps two, is walkable to the Garage Food Hall in the Bottleworks area, Centerpoint Brewing and 8th Day Distillery.

The home was decorated with adult singles or couples in mind, and Lapka said she’s not afraid to take a risk with decorating.

“We chose bold pieces, with romantic elements such as a lush blue velvet sofa and a 6ft wall mural of Medusa. We sourced all of our wall art from individual artists and curated a group of equally quirky, playful, romantic, and inclusive visuals for the enjoyment of guests,” she explained.

Lapka says one of the best parts of being an Airbnb host is helping promote local stores.

“We like to use our influence as Airbnb hosts to steer guests towards supporting local small businesses like shopping at Stomping Ground, Homespun and Silver in the City,” Lapka said.

She encourages people to visit her home in Indy because it’s “friendly Midwest vibe combined with urban conveniences [that] unbeatable”, and how fun it is to explore your surroundings.

“Cottage home is a charming historic neighborhood in an urban community. Our walkable neighborhood is a quirky mix of colorful Victorian cottages and new modern architecture along tree-lined streets.

Lapka’s listing has received 99 reviews and has a near-perfect rating of 4.99 out of 5.

To be named Best New Host, you must post your first listing in 2022, have the most guest registrations in your area, and achieve Airbnb Superhost status.
