What was once an old shed with indoor skate ramps for kids has been transformed into the original Airbnb with a commercial gym, skate ramps, multiple living rooms, a full kitchen, and striking artwork.
Located 20 kilometers southwest of Australia’s bustling Byron Bay coast, The Brooklet Skate Shed offers a unique experience for guests to immerse themselves in.
Couple Lucy and Jason Baker began offering the family-friendly 300m² AirBnB in December 2020 after decorating The Shed with utilities and bedding for six.
While the exterior looks fairly stripped down, the interior is full of colors, textures, and areas to enjoy for a weekend getaway.
‘The Brooklet Shed is a catalyst for lifelong memories and loving reflections; it’s a malleable platform to both launch adventures into all that Byron Bay and the surrounding area has to offer or simply use it as a green nook in which to retreat, feel safe and really relax,’ said Jason told FEMAIL.
While the exterior looks quite bare, the interior of the Brooklet Skate Shed is full of colors, textures, and areas to enjoy for a weekend getaway.

The main talking point is definitely the skate ramps – but Jason said that’s just a unique feature offered by The Shed.
“The ramps are just an iceberg of what this place has to offer. The spirit of the place here is like a contented sigh,” he said, adding, “The feelings caused like waking up completely refreshed and truly ready to experience it all.
The fusion of skate ramps and living spaces sets AirBnb apart from others available in the area, as well as the incredible artwork by artist Mr Basix.

“The Sheds ease with its identity connects it very well to the region, and soon you will be one of the locals enjoying coffee at harvest.”

Inside are a fireplace, basketball hoop, mirror ball, large living rooms, TV, full kitchen, bedrooms, play areas for kids, separate living rooms, restrooms and shower and a laundry room.

The outdoor area includes a fully covered commercial gym, large Weber BBQ, lounge area, outdoor table chairs and large umbrella, treehouse and children’s play area, fully fenced garden, large lawn and parking.

Each member of the family or group can find a common or solitary space depending on their mood and intentions.

Before transforming the shed into an epic getaway house, the couple used the space’s secluded corners to store “adult entertainment sources” such as motorcycles, a beach buggy and gym equipment.
“Pretty soon, the Shed started to look like the clubhouse from The Expendibles, which we didn’t mind at all!” says Jason.
The design of the shed was done by Lucy herself who wanted to create a space where “kids can create adventures and memories”.
“Lucy worked hand-in-hand with a local builder daily to shape the layout and mood into what is now,” Jason said.
Her inspiration was her own childhood lost in old sheds on her father’s estates where there was distance from adults, countless spaces to get lost in and a magnificent lack of fragility.
