Jeff Bezos backed Airbnb before its IPO, he also invested in that company

In 2011, Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ: AMZN) founder Jeff Bezos invested in Airbnb Inc (NASDAQ: ABNB) Series B through his personal venture capital firm, Bezos Expeditions.

According to data from Pitchbook, the round totaled $112 million in fundraising for Airbnb, with investments from Andreessen Horowitz, General Catalyst and Uber Technologies Inc. (NYSE: UBER) CEO Dara Khosrowshahiamong others.

While it’s unclear how much Bezos invested in the company at the time or if he still owns all of its shares, the IPO was $68 per share and didn’t return to that. level.

He wasn’t done with expanding the vacation rental business. Bezos has also invested in Homes arriveda Seattle-based real estate investment firm that allows investors to acquire shares in single-family rental homes and vacation rental properties on its platform.

Arrived Homes, launched in 2021, offers several properties that allow individual investors to buy shares for as little as $100 as it attempts to democratize access to the wealth-creating potential of real estate ownership beyond the affluent and institutional buyers.

The startup secured $25 million in Series A investment, allowing it to add more asset classes and expand its staff. It already has 197 single-family rental homes in 27 regions across the United States, totaling more than $72 million in asset value.

Arrived platform investors can earn passive income as the company handles all real estate activities, including property maintenance through to acquisitions.

The Bezos-backed company intends to expand into more US regions such as Florida, Texas, Nevada and Indiana.

Arrived Homes is the latest market to strive to simplify the investment process and reduce barriers to entry by expanding its real estate portfolio into the short-term rental asset class.
