John Lennon’s old fridge-freezer will be auctioned off among other Beatles memorabilia

A lucky bidder will soon have the opportunity to give peas a chance in an old fridge-freezer that once belonged to John Lennon – as it is set to go up for auction later this week.

The kitchen appliance is said to have been installed in Beatles member Kenwood’s mansion in Weybridge, Surrey, in 1968 – and it was still working more than five decades later.

It has been described by auctioneers who are selling it as the Rolls-Royce of fridges, before it goes up for auction tomorrow alongside other memorabilia.

The fridge-freezer is set to fetch up to £2,000 when it goes under the hammer at Omega Auctions in Newton-le-Willows, Merseyside, tomorrow.

Discussing the device, the auctioneers described it as “unique” and said it was “the most collectible household item” they had ever offered for sale.

They commented: “This amazing and unique item that was originally purchased by John Lennon when they lived in their Kenwood home was the Rolls Royce of refrigerators.”

It is said to have a freezer compartment at the top with a large fridge space below. The unit includes the original metal drawers, ice cube trays and even instructions.

The auctioneers said: “This is definitely the most collectible household item we’ve ever offered for sale. As well as great provenance, it’s also a pretty stylish fridge.”

The seller is said to have bought the fridge from a later owner of the Kenwood estate – who is said to have had six bedrooms – for just £80.

It’s not the only piece of Beatles memorabilia up for sale at the upcoming Merseyside auction – as it’s just one of 242 lots linked to the popular band.

Lennon – who was murdered in 1980 – is said to have lived in Kenwood in the 1960s, while married to his first wife, the late Cynthia Powell – whom he divorced in 1968.

It is claimed that he wrote some of the greatest Beatles songs in the mansion estate, which was worth over £13 million during its evaluation in 2012.
