Knife fight between pensioners in Spain’s Benidorm leaves Irishman dead at the hands of his British housemate

An Irish pensioner in Benidorm was stabbed to death by his British housemate in a fierce knife fight on Thursday morning.

Rescuers found the seriously injured Briton, 62, in the street outside his home on Avenida de Estacolmo in the Rincon de Loix district, sometimes called ‘Little England’.

Upon entering the flat, they found the Irishman, 68, unconscious and in an even worse and bloody condition upstairs. The doctors had to revive him on the spot.

Both men had sustained spouting injuries to their chest, legs, abdomen and head and were rushed to hospital.

A spokesman for a regional emergency response coordination center said: “The older of the two men was very serious and required resuscitation at the scene.

“The young man was less serious but was also taken to hospital with stab wounds.”

It was reported that the Irishman died from his injuries on Friday.

The Briton was arrested in his hospital bed at Marina Baixa Hospital in nearby Villajoyosa.

The police are still trying to figure out exactly what happened and why the two housemates got knifed.

A police spokesman said: ‘We are aware of an incident and will issue a formal statement later today.
