Levar Turner found guilty of murder in the murder of Philly Cop’s son, Hyram Hill, 2nd fugitive suspect

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — A 23-year-old man wanted in the murder of Hyram Hill, the son of a Philadelphia police officer, has turned himself in. Levar Turner has been charged with murder, robbery and other offenses, authorities said Friday. afternoon.

Surveillance video emerged earlier this week from Jan. 24 near Broad Street and Allegheny Avenue where Hyram Hill, the son of an active-duty Philadelphia police officer, was killed in a brazen shootout.

Hill’s mother, Edwenna Ferguson, can’t bring herself to watch this new surveillance video of her son’s killers, but she hopes others will, so someone can help her get justice for her son.

“Forever is a long time to miss someone,” Ferguson said. “I get shaken every time I think about it. Forever is a long time to miss someone.”

Ferguson thanked the Philadelphia Police Department, Temple University Hospital and medics at the scene who tried to help save his son’s life. She also acknowledged the audience and also used the moment to show empathy for the countless other families in the city who mourn the loved ones they lost to gun violence.

“The support the public has shown my family is out of this world,” Ferguson said. “I am a mother first, above all. Above all, I am a mother first. I feel for everyone and every parent who has been through what I have been through.”

“My son was a victim of these violent criminals,” Ferguson added. “We have to get there, we have to do something, we have to unite. That’s all I can say.”

Turner was allegedly involved in Hill’s murder. The following day, January 25, Turner was in court on firearms charges stemming from an arrest in February 2020. He received three years of probation.

Then, on Thursday January 27, Turner was arrested in Cheltenham on a firearms charge two weeks earlier. That Saturday, he posted $10,000 bond and was released.

Police are still looking for a second suspect.
