Liverpool and Manchester United fans pay tribute to Cristiano Ronaldo after the death of his newborn son

Manchester United fans and rivals Liverpool came together in a moment of solidarity on Tuesday to show their support for Cristiano Ronaldo, who missed the game after the death of her newborn son.

Ronaldo and his girlfriend, Georgina Rodriguez, announced the death of one of their newborn twins on Monday.

A moving moment from the game, held at Anfield Stadium in Liverpool, England, came at seven minutes – in honor of Ronaldo’s No.7 United shirt.

A chant of “Viva Ronaldo” was launched by United fans. What followed was a brief rendition by Liverpool supporters of their club’s anthem – “You’ll Never Walk Alone” – and applause around the stadium. Video captured by @mrs1nil showed the touching scene.

“That’s exactly how football should be – any side rivalry at the moment,” said Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp. “There’s only one thing that’s important and it really was a classy show.”

“It’s the worst that can happen,” United caretaker manager Ralf Rangnick said. “We are behind him. We are all with him. We wish him and his family to be strong together.”

United lost the match 4-0 against Liverpool.

Ronaldo said the loss of his newborn son was “the greatest pain any parent can feel”.
