Memphis meteorologist absent after racist tweet about Warriors’ Green

The Memphis meteorologist who sent a racist tweet about Draymond Green will not return to FOX13, the station he worked at until Warriors-Grizzlies series, according to a report by the Daily Memphian.

The post cited “several industry sources” who confirmed that Joey Sulipeck would not be returning and a job posting on LinkedIn for Sulipeck’s role. Sulipeck’s own LinkedIn lists a new position, according to the Memphian.

During the Warriors’ 142-112 win over the Memphis Grizzlies on May 7, the meteorologist, who is white, tweeted“And chew this: Draymond runs his mouth open all game long, but mild-mannered Kyle Anderson contests a call and gets kicked out? Next-level jackassery.

He would later delete the tweet and his entire account, after much backlash, including critical from another member of the Memphis media. Sulipeck has not appeared on a broadcast from his station since the incident.

It is not entirely clear why it took more than three months to resolve the situation. Sulipeck sent the tweet on May 7, and the Memphian told the story of his departure on August 9.

The station did not immediately respond to a request for comment. In May, the station told SFGATE that the tweet “does not reflect FOX13’s values” and that “we take this matter very seriously and will take appropriate action pending a full investigation.”

Green torn Sulipeck at the time, saying, “Are you surprised? Do not apologize. HOLD ON TO IT!”

The Warriors would eventually defeat the Grizzlies in the second round of the playoffs in six games en route to another NBA title.
